NSSTA ELECTIONS : MEET THE CANDIDATES
My name is Tacker LeCarpentier, and I am the Founder of Settlement Planning Services, LLC here in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have been a Summit broker for most of the past 16 years. After being appointed to fill a temporary seat on the NSSTA Board last October, today, I am asking for your vote for a full year term on the NSSTA Board of Directors.
Over the past six months, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve on the Board. The current Board is impressive, to say the least. All of us – including myself – have been highly engaged and active in all facets of NSSTA’s business including operations, legal matters, member assistance and education, and especially legislative and lobbying activities — not only in Washington, but state capitals around the country.
Here in North Carolina, I have been likewise engaged with our judges and state leaders on behalf of our industry. In June, three of our Senior Resident Superior Court judges and I will — for the third time — put on a Judicial Panel discussion at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Summer Convention. These are the same panelists who appeared with me at the 2019 NSSTA Annual Meeting in Charleston, as well as last October at the North Carolina Superior Court Judges Conference. Additionally, last month I had a very productive working lunch with my friend Josh Stein, North Carolina’s Attorney General, to re-open the use of structured settlements by our AG’s Office of Civil Affairs, as well as explore the use of structures in their resolution of Wrongful Incarceration cases. I continue that work with former Court NC Court of Appeals Judge Reuben Young, the current Head of the Civil Division at the Attorney General’s Office.
In a nutshell, I have for my entire structured settlement career been actively engaged in NSSTA and throughout our industry – for the betterment of all of structured settlement brokers and our critical life company partners. I am running for the NSSTA Board again to continue the work I started last October.
As background –
This year, I am celebrating my 30th year as an attorney, and my 16th year in structured settlements. My legal background has been entirely devoted to insurance defense litigation, appellate work and, for the past 16 years . . . structured settlements and settlement planning. I am also celebrating my 20th straight year maintaining the highest AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell for legal ability and ethical standards, as determined by other North Carolina attorneys and our local judiciary. Prior to starting my litigation career, I was a Law Clerk for the Honorable James G. Exum, the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Again, I have been extensively involved in NSSTA activities during my entire structure settlement career and devoted to “giving back” to this industry. I have served on the Legs and Regs Committee for well over 10 years, including a 2-year term as Chair. Likewise, I continue to be involved in the ACA Task Force, numerous Take the Hill activities, and am currently the Board Liaison to the Marketing Committee. Because Raleigh is only 4 hours from Washington, I have traveled to DC to meet with any number of House and Senate members in support of our industry. That includes a memorable November 2019 breakfast with the late Congressman John Lewis — a strong supporter of our industry for many years.
As NSSTA celebrates its 35th year — and all that we’ve accomplished in that time, I am more focused on the future of NSSTA and our entire industry. Yet, we should celebrate all that NSSTA has accomplished to make each of us successful in our careers and to grow our businesses. As John F. Kennedy once said, “A rising tide floats all boats.” And therefore, I am committed to always doing what is best for our entire industry.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
